Formative Assessments
The CCE through Formative Assessments ensures that teaching and learning is led in a steady rhythm and the teacher and the student have the opportunity to receive feedback in short intervals of time through a variety of learning experiences. This helps the teacher and the student to know how the learning has been received; feedback to the teacher on how her teaching has been received and feedback to the student on how well she/he has understood the teaching. This is called as the Formative Assessments by the CBSE. At Arsha Vidya Mandir the teaching community takes great care to create and design a variety of these Formative assessments continuously focussing towards ensuring that the appropriate skills of learning are embedded in these assignments/assessments. A term is divided into two smaller equal parts of time to ensure that formative assessments are seamlessly and steadily integrated into the teaching-learning process during these periods. The school attempts to offer at least a minimum of 8 Formative assessments in each subject in a term.
Summative Assessments
At the end of every term the school offers a more comprehensive and extensive assessment of all learning across the term. This is called the Summative assessments. The Summative assessment is a pencil/pen paper assessment/test and this assessment focusses on testing the skills developed by the student across the entire content learnt over the term. The school takes great care to likewise design Summative assessments of high quality upto the middle school classes and adopts the assessments provided by the CBSE Examination Board for the High School. The student is to attempt two Summative assessments within an academic year in every subject.
The CBSE has also through these assessments introduced the format by which the scores are to be collated to form the final score and represented in the report. An interesting and welcome feature that the CCE demands is that a score is to be represented further as a grade and is to be qualified with a brief write up describing the performance of the student and offering recommendations to help the student understand better her/his performance. This is called as the Descriptive Indicators in the report.
